Advocate General Tizzano has been appointed Judge of the European Court of Justice, Mengozzi Advocate General, and Milanesi Judge of the Court of First Instance
As a result of the resignation of Mr Antonio La Pergola, the Representatives of the Member States’ Governments have decided to appoint Advocate GeneralTizzano Judge to the Court of Justice from the date of his swearing in until 6 October 2006, to immediately renew this term for the period from 7 October 2006 to 6 October 2012. Tizzano has been Advocate General since 7 October 2000.
Mr Paolo Mengozzi, Judge at the Court of First Instance since 4 March 1998, has been appointed to replace him; his term of office was also renewed until 6 October 2012.
Mr Enzo Moavero Milanesi has been appointed to replace Mengozzi. Milanesi just began as Director General of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers, before that he was Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission since March 2002 until 2005.
The terms of office of Justices Arestis, Bonichot, Borg Barthet, Da Cunha Rodrigues, Jann, Kuris, Levits, Lindh, Malenovský, Schiemann, Timmermans, and Tizzano, together with those of Advocates General Bot, Mazák, and Trstenjak, were also renewed for the period from 7 October 2006 to 6 October 2012.
